Shaely Ritchey - President

Born in Prince George, but settled in Victoria since 2012, Shaely is a registered nurse (RN) and a passionate advocate for mental health (with a special focus on eating disorders.) Shaely received her Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Victoria in 2018 and now works on an acute care surgical ward. As a recent graduate, Shaely still works closely with the University of Victoria’s nursing program as a part of their New Grad Council. Shaely also volunteers with the Looking Glass Foundation for Eating Disorders.

Having personal experience with mental illness and now working in healthcare, Shaely strives to bring these different perspectives to her work in both her professional and personal life.

In her free time Shaely enjoys spending time in nature and pursuing outdoor activities, she also enjoys reading and film, is an amateur, but eager, photographer, and is a self-proclaimed “student for life” as she pursues further educational goals in medicine and/or nursing fields.


Sally Chaster - Vice President, Communications Officer, & Special officer (older adults)

Sally has background in government work, has two children, and is one of the co-founder’s of Victoria’s Eating Disorder Support Group. She is a passionate advocate for those struggling with eating disorders and related mental health issues with a keen interest in the older adult population.

Heidi Murray - Secretary & Membership Secretary

Heidi is the secretary of Vancouver Island Voices for Eating Disorders. Her lived experience with eating disorders and other mood disorders both as a teen and an adult help with her to be passionate about inspiring hope, raising awareness and reducing stigma around eating disorders and mental illness in general. In her free time Heidi considers herself a homebody and enjoys spending time with her partner of 20 years and their 2 dogs. 


Diane Kent - Treasurer

In addition to working with VIVED, Diane is actively involved with the Sooke Harbourside Lion’s Club.


Sarah Rzemieniak - Member At Large

Sarah Rzemieniak grew up in North Vancouver but now calls beautiful Victoria home. Sarah graduated with a microbiology degree from UVic. She then completed a degree in nutrition and dietetics from UBC, after which she worked as a registered dietitian with Island Health. In this role she supported clients with eating disorders as well as other nutrition concerns. After several years, Sarah realized that her true passion was in the coaching and counselling aspects of the work, and she became a certified eating disorder recovery coach through The Carolyn Costin Institute, where she was supervised and trained directly under Carolyn Costin, eating disorder therapist, author, and founder of Monte Nido residential treatment centres. Sarah now works in private practice in Victoria, BC and online worldwide as an eating disorder recovery coach, which she finds so incredibly rewarding after her own recovery from a long struggle with an eating disorder.

In her free time Sarah enjoys volunteering, walking by the ocean, reading and knitting.


Grace Davies - Member At Large

Grace works as a paramedic and yoga instructor. She is passionate about living in tune with one’s body, dismantling diet culture, and tackling weight stigma. Grace currently serves on Island Health’s patient and family advisory committee (PFAC) for eating disorders.


Bethany Vezina - member at large & special officer (north/central island)

Bethany is a busy mom of two young ones with a passion for advocacy around eating disorders. She enjoys life in the beautiful Comox Valley.


Colin Osaka - Member at Large & Special Officer (Men with Eating Disorders)

Colin grew up in Victoria and graduated from the University of Victoria in 2013. He enjoys volunteering with immigrants and international students and has worked/studied overseas in Asia. He currently works in the field of international education.
