EDAW 2026: Swan Lake Nature Walk

Join us for a gentle nature walk around Swan Lake led by one of our directors, Celeste. We will meander slowly around the lake at a pace that is comfortable for all in attendance. No registration required.

This quiet, bird-filled event is intended to be a place to connect a bit with the world beyond eating disorders while offering a low pressure source of connection for people who have (had) eating disorders and their loved ones.

about Swan Lake Nature Santuary:

  • Visitors under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult 18+.

  • No dogs or cat permitted.

  • The main parking lot is open dawn to dusk every day and is located to the left (east) of Swan Lake Road. There is an overflow lot and alternate parking outside 841 Ralph Street, please avoid parking on residential streets.

  • The Nature House is closed on Sundays, please be aware that there will be no outdoor washroom access available.

  • Visitors are encouraged to exercise care and attention at all times. Parts of the trail may be closed during peak flood periods. Check their social media accounts (Facebook | Instagram) for trail closures.

  • Please be respectful of all the rules posted in their visitor’s guide which include but are not limited to: no touching, no smoking, no bikes, no feeding wildlife, and no noise.

  • Bring your binoculars and walking shoes and dress for the weather. Check out this list of birds compiled by Chris Saunders and their native plant garden brochure.

Trail Accessibility:

  • There are two accessible parking spots located outside of the Nature House at the end of Swan Lake Road. Accessible drop-off and pick-up location is 10 metres to the right of the Nature House entrance with space for one vehicle at a time.

  • Certified service dogs are permitted but all other domestic animals are prohibited on site.

  • The trails surrounding the Nature House, including the Native Plant Garden, are gravel paths. The Wharf and Floating Boardwalk are level and provide a textured surface for mobility aids.

  • Benches with back rests are available for seating on the trails at regular intervals.

  • The Swan Lake Loop trail is an easy walk for those who like to meander or need a more accessible hike.

  • The Lake Loop trail is stroller accessible but has uneven terrain at this time that could cause challenges for visitors with mobility devices.
