Growing a Sustainable Movement
Winter 2025 Update
As we say goodbye to 2025, we are undergoing an exciting transformation and registering as a non-profit in the new year. We’re planning a series of workshops and peer activities for EDAW 2026, redesigning our website, and reflecting on the work we’ve done in our community. We might be quiet, but we’ve been busy building a sustainable movement rooted in collaboration, compassion, and change.
Non-Profit Status
As mentioned earlier this year, we received the Vital Stream Grant from the Victoria Foundation as part of a Partnership Agreement with Canadian Mental Health Association, BC Division. We are in the process of re-incorporating as a registered non-profit society in the province of British Columbia and has required significant restructuring behind-the-scenes work.
EDAW 2026
For several years in a row, we’ve held an annual Virtual Town Hall during the first week of February which is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week in Canada.
Last year, our team faced some significant personal challenges and came together as a team to support each other when the healthcare system failed one of our members in the midst of a mental health crisis.
This year, as we work on restructuring and building our organization into a sustainable movement that supports our own seasons and shifting needs, we wanted to honour the exhaustion we have felt with awareness weeks.
This is not to say they cannot be powerful, it is simply to recognize one of the lessons of last year - the power of community coming together and caring for each other whether the wider world and its systems acknowledge the need for change or not.
This year, we are working with different clinicians we admire to host several workshops during the week of EDAW 2026 that we hope can be supportive during a time where we are so often reminded of the stark statistics surrounding eating disorders.
We will keep the community aprised of details as they develop.
Website Changes
As part of our organizational restructuring, we are in the process of building a new website with a more sustainable platform which better aligns with our values as an organization. This will take time to develop and our current website will remain as is until we have completed this work.
Streamlining Community Spaces
At present, we have several spaces on social media where individuals can engage with our organization. On Facebook, we have a page and several groups where members of the public and volunteers can engage with us. To streamline and eliminate redundant spaces, we will be closing down some groups that have limited interactions and will provide redirection to more appropriate and active group spaces.
Projects We’ve Supported Over The Past Few Months
This fall, we were able to support two fourth year nursing students at Selkirk College in the development of course materials on eating disorders for their nursing program. Check our social media accounts for a future post celebrating their work.
Moving Forward
As we shift into 2026, we want to thank everyone that continues to support our work. We are excited for what the future can hold - from collaboraiton, to research opportunities, to realizing more of Tara’s legacy and what she hoped for the future and those living at the intersection of multiple policy failures.
